Update:
I found the solution. I had to loosen the screw just below the center of the handle bars and rotate the handle bars and brake levers as one.

I am here because I just want to save others from going through what I went through. I almost always read reviews before I buy, but I didn’t on this one because I trusted the “Amazon’s Choice” label that’s put next to the rating. I figured I can’t go wrong.
I don’t know pricing on bikes, and I take responsibility for that, if I knew that the price would lead to me saying “you get what you pay for” I would have bought a nicer bike, which, I’m going to have to end up doing now anyway.
This bike is junk, it might as well be sitting in a dump somewhere. It’s garbage.
I’ve ridden it maybe 4 times. Every single time I ride it (I’ve been trying to ride for about an hour to get a decent work out), every time I ride this bike the handle bar comes loose. The first time it came so loose it was just flopping around and almost falling off, I couldn’t believe it. I thought maybe I didn’t tighten it enough.
So each time now before I ride, I have to tighten it as much as possible and every single time by the end of the hour it’s coming loose.
Now on my last ride yesterday, not only was the handlebar coming loose, the left pedal is falling off. Keep in mind I’m not doing bike stunts or tricks, I’m not mountain biking on crazy trails. I am riding my bike around boston on flat easy to ride bike trails that aren’t strenuous. I am a novice rider who is barely even pushing the limits of the bike yet this piece of trash is falling apart right from under me as I ride it gently around bike trails in the city. It’s kind of a joke.
Don’t waste your money, seriously. Spend a little more and get a real bike. Now I will have to do the same and just eat the loss because the return policy doesn’t let me return it anymore and I haven’t even had it a month.
Enjoy the money you robbed me of, huffy, you’ll never get another dollar from me ever again.
Unsure if a flaw with the bike or the bolts mine came with, but the handlebar required extensive work and effort to bolt on and to stop slippage. Additionally, the chain keeps popping off but I have not made enough adjustments to ensure that is the bike and not myself doing something wrong.
but is a good buy if you know what you needs are.
