Product Description

Frequently Asked Questions:

Do I need an iPhone to use Geno 2.0?

No. You can access most of Geno 2.0’s features using your web browser on almost any device, or you can download the Geno 2.0 app from the App Store on your iPhone to access additional features, like a personalized results video and Neanderthal visual comparison tool.

How accurate are my results?
Your DNA is sequenced using our state-of-the-art Exome+ technology. We provide National Geographic with more than 200,000 markers from your autosomal chromosomes, the Y-chromosome, and mitochondrial DNA. The results of your sequence are then compared to each of 60 geographic and ethnic populations to calculate which two of these populations were most similar to you in terms of the genetic markers you carry.

Why is regional ancestry more accurate for individuals from some regions?
Overall, genetic ancestry determination is limited by the diversity of the reference panel and currently available references do not yet include a sample of every population.

What is the Genographic Project?
National Geographic’s Genographic Project has used advanced DNA analysis and worked with indigenous communities to help answer fundamental questions about where humans originated and how we came to populate the Earth. Now, cutting-edge technology is enabling us to shine a powerful new light on our collective past.

Who is Helix?
Helix empowers everyone to explore what makes them unique—their DNA. From health and wellness insights to family planning and ancestry information, Helix’s growing list of partners, which includes National Geographic, can tap into your genetic profile to provide relevant insights for today, tomorrow and years to come.

What does this test EXACTLY do!? I'll tell you!!!

What does this test EXACTLY do!? I'll tell you!!!
I am absolutely shocked at the 1 star reviews, or people claiming it's useless. It's obvious people DO NOT know chromosomes or even bother to study how testing works. This is no different than how ancestry, 23 and Me, etc perform their testing. The only difference from those sites is they have a higher sample poll to connect relatives.MEN: Can test their X and Y chromosomes. Example for your father, you will see your father, grandfather, great grandfather, etc. This test will NOT show you any paternally related women, meaning your grandmother on your father's side. Likewise, for the X chromosome it will show your mother, grandmother, great grandmother, etc. It will NOT show any maternally related males, meaning your grandfather on your mother's side.If you wish to know about your maternal grandfather (grandpa on your moms side), you will need a connected male. Meaning your grandfather's son, his brother, or male cousin. LIkewise if you wish to know your paternal grandmother (grandma on your dads side), you will need a connected female. Meaning your grandmother's daughter, sister, or female cousin.WOMEN: Can only test their X chromosomes as they do NOT possess a Y chromosome. It will only show a females maternal line. Meaning it will show Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, etc.ETHNICITY: This will not show you what part of Ireland, Spain, Britain, or Native American tribe you are from. Genetics are not determined by borders, instead the test shows you a general area and time frame your ancestors inhabited a certain piece of land.WHAT MAKES THIS DIFFERENT?: Results in this test are waaaaay different than what Ancestry, 23 and Me, etc are providing. All those mentioned sites collect samples, form a Family Tree, and connect you to relatives when you match. From there they provide you with genetic results with modern day racial identity classifications. With the other sites to even see your unknown relatives matched, you will need a subscription or purchase more kits to test additional known relatives.WHAT DO YOU GET WITH THIS TEST? You will receive a broader in depth analysis of your genetics over thousands of years. You will also see the area your ancestors inhabited.CONCLUSION: I purchased this on sale for $31. For the price, it beats Ancestry and 23 & Me, which can run from $70 on sale to $170 to test your X and Y chromosomes. Me being a male, this was a fantastic deal as I received both my maternal and paternal lines, and saved me some extra cash to purchase additional kits for other family members.
